Frequently asked questions

What does underscore do?+

underscore’s goal is software that keeps being built after launch, attentive to the people using it. Today, underscore helps you investigate whether a live app is doing the job it was built to do. You confirm that job and its limits, review available checks and real-use evidence, and decide what to try next. Findings should say what was observed and what remains unknown.

Is this just error monitoring?+

No. A page can load without a JavaScript error while a person cannot finish an important task. underscore uses the app’s stated purpose and available evidence to help you investigate those problems. Runtime errors are useful evidence, but a missing event or a page exit alone does not prove that a task failed.

How does underscore know what matters for my app?+

Start with a live URL or repository. underscore can draft what the app appears to do, with sources for that draft. You confirm what should get better, what counts as a finish, and what must not get worse. A detected page or guessed goal does not become your goal until you confirm it.

What happens when I connect an app?+

underscore checks what it can reach and helps you review the app’s purpose and goals. Live-use evidence needs browser reporting or another connected source. The app shows which checks completed, what they covered, and where evidence is missing. Connecting an app alone does not prove it is healthy or that its goals are being met.

What are Trials?+

A Trial is a controlled place to investigate one problem and rehearse a possible change on a page preview. Agents embody avatars during the Trial. Their runs stay separate from real visits and cannot prove that a change will help real people.

Will underscore change my live app?+

Confirming a goal or running a Trial does not grant permission to change production. You review proposed moves and the scope of any allowed action. Live version delivery and measured rollout decisions are still being developed.

How does a new version reach my visitors?+

Something has to stand between a visitor and your site, and only visits that pass through it can join a trial. Today that is your hosted address, or a small proxy in a Next.js app. Pointing your own domain at underscore is coming. See how it works for the three routes.

Why does my site have an underscore.page address?+

It is your live site, served through underscore, so a version can be tried on a share of the people who open it. Pages are fetched from your host on every request and nothing is stored. It lives on its own domain, away from underscore.ai, so a page there can never touch your underscore account. Your own address does not change.

Can I use underscore across client apps?+

Portfolio can show several apps in one account, each with its own context. An agency back office with separate client access, team roles, and client reports is planned, not included in the current plans. Contact contact@underscore.ai if you want to discuss a scoped agency pilot.

Why not just ask a coding agent to fix the app?+

A coding agent can help write a change. underscore starts with the app’s confirmed job and evidence from its use, so you can decide whether a change is needed and what it must protect. A proposed move remains a proposal until you review it; a Trial result remains separate from live-user outcomes.
